Airat Shaimiev made his fortune as a co-owner of the TAIF Group, a large regional holding company with assets in the Republic of Tatarstan. In 2021, TAIF merged with petrochemical company Sibur. He and other TAIF shareholders got 15% of Sibur in exchange. Shaimiev is also CEO of Tatautodor, the government-owned group that does road construction and repair in Tatarstan.
